CEMEX Concrete Plant Closes for New West Hollywood Apartment Tower - WEHO TIMES West Hollywood News, Nightlife and Events
The CEMEX concrete plant, a fixture of West Hollywood since the 1920s, has ceased operations to make way for a new 34-story apartment tower. Located at 1000 N. La Brea Avenue, the plant has long supplied concrete for Los Angeles’ infrastructure, from streets to iconic buildings. Now, the site will be transformed into a mixed-use development by CIM Group, featuring 514 residential units and retail space.
CIM Group acquired multiple parcels, covering a total of 1.6 acres, at a prominent location near. The acquisition includes parcels located in both West Hollywood and Los Angeles, with the cement plant spanning across both cities.
The planned development, dubbed 1000 La Brea, will include amenities such as rooftop gardens, a fitness center, and a pool. At least 20% of the units will be designated as affordable housing, with subsidized rents. CIM Group co-founder Shaul Kuba expects the building to attract entertainment professionals given its proximity to the Sycamore District, a burgeoning area known for upscale shops and eateries.
West Hollywood’s east side, historically dominated by low-rise buildings, has seen an influx of multistory mixed-use developments in recent years. Jennifer Alkire, West Hollywood’s assistant director of community development, emphasized the importance of housing projects like this to meet state and city housing goals.
CIM aims to start construction next year, with completion projected for 2028.
